Is Wisdom Teeth Removal Painful?
Hi, Dr Linda here from Bacchus Marsh Dental House, part of the Dental House Group.
One of the most common questions I hear is, “Is wisdom teeth removal painful?” And honestly, I understand the concern. No one looks forward to discomfort. But here’s the good news. With today’s modern techniques and sedation options, the experience is often much easier than people expect.
During the procedure, we use local anaesthetic to numb the area completely, so you won’t feel anything. If you’re feeling nervous, we also offer sedation options like happy gas or IV sedation. These can help you feel calm, or even allow you to sleep through the entire procedure.
Now, you might be wondering what happens after the procedure. Mild swelling and some discomfort are normal during the first few days, but this is usually easy to manage with pain relief and some simple home care. Most patients are feeling back to normal within a week.
Following your aftercare instructions is really important. Things like avoiding straws, eating soft foods, and using ice packs can help speed up recovery and keep things comfortable.
The truth is, the pain caused by infected or impacted wisdom teeth is often much worse than the short-term discomfort of having them removed. Taking them out at the right time helps you avoid future issues like crowding, infection, or damage to nearby teeth.
So if your wisdom teeth are causing problems, or if you’ve been told they need to come out, we’re here to help.
Send us a DM or give us a call on 1800 GENTLE to book a consultation. We’ll walk you through the process and make sure everything feels as smooth and comfortable as possible.
