Bacchus Marsh Dental House can help you get the treatment you need using modern, pain-free sedation.

Sleep Dentistry at Bacchus Marsh

For many people, visiting the dentist can be a highly stressful and anxiety-inducing experience. These feelings can be so strong that they may delay or avoid the dentist altogether, and this can have a negative impact on their oral health. Whether this fear originates from a previous dental experience, fear of needles or simply a strong gag reflex, Dental House can help. We offer painless and stress-free appointments using sleep dentistry techniques, which can help patients receive the treatment they require.

What is Sleep Dentistry?

Sleep dentistry (or sedation dentistry) allows patients to receive their dental treatment while in a state of intense relaxation. At Dental House, we utilise intravenous (IV) sedation: this level of anaesthesia allows the patient to remain conscious, but they are in such a deep sleep-like state that they feel no pain, worry or anxiety. When ‘waking up’, the patient will feel like no time has passed and have little or no memory of the treatment.

How it Works

At a thorough consultation prior to your appointment, our experienced dentists will chat with you to determine which type of sedation is appropriate for your situation. Age, fitness and medication can affect which technique will be used.

Intravenous sedation is a safe and modern method that is most commonly used for patients. The dosage and level of sedation can be tailored to meet your individual needs. It is administered via a small cannula in the arm or the back of the hand. Soon after the injection, you will feel drowsy and very relaxed. Due to some prolonged drowsiness after treatment, you will need to have someone transport home.

For patients who are scared of needles or who may need a lighter form of sedation, Dental House also offers inhalation sedation (also known as happy gas). With this method, you will experience a pleasant level of relaxation and decreased pain sensitivity. Afterwards, the sedative quickly wears off without drowsiness or other side effects.

Is it Right for Me?

Sleep dentistry can help with many issues that may prevent you from regularly visiting a dentist. Some of these include:

  • Anxious about going to the dentist
  • Past traumatic dental experiences
  • A strong or overly sensitive gag reflex
  • Requiring extensive dentistry work done in one visit
  • Scared of needles in the mouth
  • Low pain threshold or extremely sensitive teeth
  • Have difficulty achieving desired numbness with local anaesthetic
