Instead of removing the tooth, crowns or other types of dental fittings are used to preserve and save it. Normally, getting a dental crown, or any type of dental fitting to restore a tooth requires at least two visits. During the first visit your tooth is prepared and fitted for the crown and you may be set up with a temporary crown. You will need at least one more visit to remove the temporary and fit your permanent crown. The process can be inconvenient for some, but with CEREC technology, the entire process can be done in just one visit.

What to Expect
At Dental House, our gentle dental professionals’ primary goal is your comfort and satisfaction. And knowing what to expect before your visit can help you feel at ease because there will be no surprises. The following are the steps you can expect when coming in for a CEREC crown.
First, we will do a full evaluation along with x-rays and pictures of your teeth and mouth
The images are directly uploaded into the computer where the CEREC imaging software will create a full 3D and detailed representation of your teeth
The information will be used as the CEREC milling unit creates a beautiful and natural-looking tooth restoration
We will then prepare your tooth and apply the crown, and you are ready to go!
Risks and Recovery
CEREC crowns are designed and placed on the same day, but as with any restorative procedure, there are risks and recovery considerations.
Possible risks include:
- Temporary tooth sensitivity after crown placement
- Minor gum irritation around the treated tooth
- Risk of crown fracture or loosening under heavy biting forces
- In rare cases, further treatment such as root canal therapy may be needed if the tooth is compromised
Recovery considerations:
- Many patients return to normal activities immediately
- Sensitivity usually settles within a few days
- Avoiding very hard foods initially can help protect the new crown
