Soft Tissue Laser Gum Contouring
In most cases, a soft tissue laser treatment can be used to recontour the shape of your gums. Sometimes called Gum Recontouring, this is a mild form of reshaping the gumline to give you a smile with more teeth than gums. During this easy treatment, a topical and local anesthetic is administered, then the laser is used to contour the gum around the margin. One benefit of this dental treatment is the lack of vibration and heat, so the procedure is very comfortable. In addition, the laser helps seal blood vessels, so you experience less blood and swelling for a quicker recovery time. The result is a beautiful smile with a minimally invasive procedure.
Surgical Gum Treatment
In some cases, a little more gum needs to be removed, or the bone needs to be recontoured. Surgical gum treatment may be used and is a common procedure, often used in regenerative dentistry or to treat gum disease. During the treatment, a local anesthetic is used, and the patient may feel mild vibration or pressure. Again, the procedure is relatively with minimal discomfort and recovery downtime is also minimal. Over-the-counter medications can help reduce inflammation and mild pain, while patients can often get right back to work.
Cosmetic Injectable
While this may sound strange to some, Cosmetic Injectable may be the right treatment for you. Sometimes the gums and teeth are in great shape, but the muscles around the mouth may move too far when you smile. This condition is known as hypermobility of the lip, and while there are no medical issues linked to it, some patients feel it takes away from their smile. If this sounds like you, we can help with Cosmetic Injectable injections to relax the upper lip. When you smile, the relaxing effect of Cosmetic Injectable will keep your gums behind your lip while only your pearly whites show through.
Porcelain Veneers
Genetics may be at play if smaller than normal teeth cause a gummy smile. Besides genetics, smaller teeth may be due to extreme wear from bruxism (tooth grinding), or trauma. But there is no need to go full dentures or to replace the teeth, because they can be easily fixed with porcelain veneers.
Veneers are a thin shell-like covering which are placed as a permanent fixture on teeth. Your natural teeth are left intact, but may be reshaped to hold the veneers in place. Veneers allow you to choose the shape and color of your new teeth, for personal satisfaction. Many people use this opportunity to lengthen and straighten teeth and achieve a whiter smile.
Summary of Gum Treatment Services
Personalised Services for Your Smile
Using gum contouring or treatment should result in a smile that you desire and deserve, but some patients may require more personalized service than those described above. For example, if teeth are crooked above the gumline, removing some of the gum will show more of the crooked teeth. If this is the case, we may recommend braces or Invisalign as a more appropriate treatment before gum recontouring. No matter what your individual needs are, we are committed to providing the highest quality service, and will work with you each step of the way until you get the smile you deserve.
