What Is the After Care Process of All On 4 Plus®?
Hi, I’m Dr Fong, the principal dentist here at Dental House Group.
Last week, our dear patient, Laura from Diggers Rest, booked in for her All On 4 Plus® dental implants treatment with us. One of the questions she had was about the after care process.
I realised this was a common question that always comes up with patients who get All On 4 Plus® implants, so I decided to do a quick video about it.
When you get All On 4 Plus® dental implants, you have had a surgery in which four to six implants were secured into your jawbone. Because of the work done in your mouth and the anesthesia used, rest is the most critical aspect of your recovery process. So, focus on resting and avoid any strenuous physical activity so that your mouth can heal properly.
Your dentist would have given you specific instructions for your situation, but just to recap, bleeding for the few hours is normal after implant surgery. You can put gauze on the area to help stop it and put a cool pack on your cheek area with gentle pressure to help. Also, do not spit or use a straw for at least 48 hours. And of course, don’t smoke, because that can cause problems!
Continue to brush your teeth twice each day, but be very careful and do not brush the surgical sites. Brush around the prosthesis and when you rinse, use warm water with a tiny bit of salt in it and allow the water to slowly flow around your mouth without a forced swishing, because that can dislodge a blood clot that was trying to seal the suture area. Overall, be careful and aware of how your mouth feels when you brush and rinse.
There will be swelling in the area and this is completely okay and it’s part of the healing process. Simply apply an ice pack to your face in the area of the sutures to help reduce swelling for the first 48 hours. The swelling will naturally go down over a few days, and taking care to lie with your head and shoulders elevated will help make sure it does.
Lastly, it is extremely important to be on a soft diet for the first 3 months of healing. During this time, you may or may not be using a temporary bridge, but it is not designed to be used for chewing hard or crunchy food. And please chew gently even if it’s soft food.
Of course, if you have any questions, we are always here to help.
I hope this has given you a better understanding of the after care of the All On 4 Plus® treatment. Just like any surgery, the important thing is rest, be gentle with yourself, and give it time to heal.
