Hi, this is Dr Lyle, one of the principal dentists from Dental House Group.
Our patient Sarah from Gisborne and her children have been coming to see us for years, and she was enquiring about orthodontics for her children. On her last visit, Sarah wanted to know the cost of braces so she can be prepared in case any of her children need them. We thought this was such an important subject for families or anyone who wants braces, so I decided to do a quick video about it.
First, there are a variety of options for orthodontics, such as traditional metal braces, ceramic braces and Invisialign aligners. Orthodontic treatment often ranges between $4000 – $9000. There are 2 main factors that can impact the cost of braces.
First one is the complexity of your case. The complexity will determine how long you have to wear the braces, and how often you need to come in to have them adjusted. If your teeth are mildly crooked then you may only need to wear braces or aligners for about six months and the cost would be lower than someone who may have a more complex case, requiring longer treatment time, sometimes as long as 2-3 years.

The other factor that can impact the price is the type of orthodontic treatment. For example, some patients may choose traditional braces because they are not candidates for clear aligners. Clear braces or ceramic braces have a higher cost. Other patients may be able to use clear aligners. So depending on whether you have traditional braces or Invisalign clear aligners will have an impact on the price.
I hope this gives you a better understanding of how much braces cost, and the factors that can impact the final price.
If you or your loved one need to straightening teeth with braces or clear aligners, we would love to look after you.
